Stage one takes you into the remote territory of the Muong Hum valley.
The race begins with a short uphill section on road before an steep section of trail will further split up the racing. After a river crossing comes the day’s first proper climb, but from here to the village of Muong Hum there is plenty of downhill with some smaller, punchy rises to mix it up. You’ll be riding on paths between villages which you can expect to share with pigs, chickens and kids herding buffalo.
After a suspension tarmac section through Muong Hum comes a single track section through paddies before the major climb of the day. Climbing efforts are then rewarded with a steep descent which is an absolute blast but which requires caution. After a stunning river crossing over a wooden bridge you’ll hit a punchy climb, some rocky descending and then turn onto ‘Kien’s Trail’ single track through freshly harvested paddy fields before the run in to the finish.
Today’s finish village is set on a local sports field by the river. Enjoy food and drinks with views across the mountains!
